In Ceredo, WV, the Golden Girl Group Home, founded in 1984, provides a home along with various programs from homeless girls ages 12-18. These are girls who have been removed from their homes due to abuse/neglect and are brought to Golden Girl Group Home to live, grow, and heal. They provide counseling, education, and mentoring in a safe, nurturing environment. These girls, who have come from abusive isolating situations, are now finding themselves isolated with the restrictions brought on by COVID-19. An outlet like a therapeutic arts program is desperately needed for the mental well-being of the girls at the Golden Girl Group Home.
The $3000 they hope to raise will go towards their Therapeutic Art Program. Therapeutic art therapy supplies will provide needed support for homeless girls who suffer from the trauma of severe abuse and neglect. These therapeutic models are essential to ease the additional stress the girls have had to endure and will help them cope with the pandemic as well as their individual cases. According to Development Director Nikki Thomas, "because of COVID our girls (ages 12-18) who are victims of sexual abuse/neglect and are homeless, have had to be isolated even more due to this pandemic. They need therapeutic activities to help them cope with the stress they have to endure in isolation." Give now!
