The Family Food Basket in Sims, North Carolina tries to help the needy families in their area live healthy lives. They serve the towns of Bailey, Middlesex and Sims as well as the Rock Ridge, Buckhorn and Mount Pleasant communities. These areas cover a portion of Nash, Wilson, and Johnston counties. They provide food and utility assistance as well help with medication purchases. In 2019 the Family Food Basket served almost 5000 people. Since COVID-19, the amount of people served has increased. Rebecca Dew, administrator, states “What a pleasure it is to be a part of the Family Food Basket. We love our team of volunteers. We are one big, happy family helping our neighbors in need.”
With the $5,000 raised through this campaign they plan to purchase non-perishable items and meats to help them meet the increasing need for the food assistance program at the Family Food Basket. The food bank provides a variety of can goods, meats, breads, eggs, milk, potatoes, and other items as donated by their area churches, farmers, families, individuals, businesses, and other organizations.
