In Plano, Texas the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is closing the hunger gap by providing access to nutritious food. They provide support to more than 645,000 people annually through a network of more than 200 partner agencies. The NTFB distributes nutritious food, provides SNAP application assistance, and makes referrals to other social service providers for those requiring additional services. “Food pantries can be stigmatized, like you have to be really poor or homeless to use them, but that’s not the case, especially right now. The food pantry is very welcoming, there is no shame and everyone is there for the same reason. During this time, it is just very reassuring to know you are able to get the food you need weekly. They give so much.” Dorie from Wylie, a single mother of two grown children
With the $5000 they raise, they plan to help meet the rising need in the community for their food distribution services. Every dollar raised helps provide three meals to feed hungry children, families, and seniors in their community. Changes necessitated by COVID-19 have moved them to a food box model which relies more heavily on purchased food. They build up to 60,000 food boxes weekly for their agencies, allowing for a low-to-no contact distribution model. Donate now to help them fill those food boxes!
