In 2003, people in and around the East end of Clay County, Tennessee saw the need for and established the East 52 Volunteer Fire Department. It is 100% volunteer supported and has approximately 30 members. In the community, East 52 members present at community events, teach CPR, and assist other fire departments.
With the $3,000 they hope to raise, they plan to purchase rechargeable batteries and chargers for their Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) air tanks. According to Chief James A. King, “Our department is in need of rechargeable batteries and chargers for our each of our 12 SCBA. Our fire members wear the SCBA in a fire or in hazardous conditions to protect their lungs from the heat, poisonous gases and contaminates.”
