In Clarksburg, West Virginia the Police Department is responsible for the protection of life and property, enforcement of the law, preserving peace, and the prevention of crime. The Department wants to make their community safer for their citizens, their visitors, and their employees. With the addition of a dual-purpose K-9 to the department they can continue to increase their effectiveness. The new K-9 would be able to assist officers in the areas of Community Relations, Officer and Citizen Safety, tracking and apprehension, and narcotics detection. The new K-9 can help them break down barriers that may exist between officers and citizens. An increase in communication and positive relationships will help the department continue to increase their effectiveness. "A K-9 program is a worthwhile endeavor to help combat the huge influx of illegal narcotics flooding our community" stated Chief Mark A. Kiddy of the Clarksburg Police Department.
They want to raise $7,500 which will go toward the cost of the dog, training for the handler as well as equipment for the K-9 and the handler including a ballistic k-9 vest as well as veterinary care and food. This fundraising initiative is part of a larger fundraising effort they have undertaken for the new dual-purpose K-9 unit for the department.
Help the Clarksburg Police Department realize their goal of a dual K-9 unit!
