The Augusta First United Methodist Church Food Pantry provides necessary resources to those who are food insecure in Woodruff County Arkansas. The food pantry serves almost 2500 people a year. Formed in 2012, the food pantry continues to operate with the support of donations of food and money from individuals and the local churches. "We are called to love our neighbor, and offering prayer, compassion, and food is how we do it." Pastor Melanie Tubbs, Augusta First United Methodist Church. Demand continues to grow for the program.
With the $1,500 they hope to raise, they plan to keep the pantry stocked with food and other essentials such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, diapers and baby food. With the recent closure of the town’s only grocery store and with not everyone having access to transportation to the closest grocery store 10 miles away (20 mile round trip), the Food Pantry expects an increased demand.
